SIU Energy Day 2016 Event Information

Energy research and education is growing strong at SIU!  At SIU Energy Day on April 6, you can learn about the biggest trends in energy and meet people at SIU working on solving the big energy problems. The first SIU Energy Day is scheduled for April 6, 2016, 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. as part of Da Vinci Days.  SIU Energy Day agenda starts out at the Student Center with two top-notch keynote speakers, a carbon dioxide utilization discussion panel, awarding of Energy Boost scholarships and grants, and the Expo with posters and demos by SIU researchers, students, departments and local energy businesses. Later in the day guests will be taken on visits to some labs on campus and the Illinois Energy Development Park in Carterville. In the evening an energy storage technology seminar is presented. This event is for energy students, faculty, industry, alumni, and anyone interested in energy and energy education and research opportunities at SIU.

First tour will leave from Student Center International Lounge at 2:00 p.m.  Subsequent groups will leave every 15 minutes.

Illinois Energy Development Park (Carterville) - Tour by shuttle bus, picked up at Engineering Building, returning to Student Center for one-hour round trips

6:00-7:00 p.m.

Prof. Leon Shaw, Professor of Materials Engineering and Director of the Center for Energy Storage and Conversion at the Illinois Institute of Technology, will present a seminar entitled "Mechanical-Activation-Enhanced Surface Functionalization and Capacitance for High-Performance Li-ion Capacitors" (Auditorium) - Sponsored by SIU Materials Technology Center

Expo

The Expo from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. enables those working on energy projects, doing energy research, selling energy products, and otherwise involved in energy to be represtened and network with other potential collaborators. We want to help make the connections that will lead to new energy initiatives and jobs at SIU and in the region. Read more about why to participate in the Expo.

SIU Faculty/Staff/Students/Departments and Other Educational Groups

SIU has a long history of energy research. At the Energy Day Expo, students and faculty will display posters and demonstrations of current research activities, and departments can showcase their energy-related programs. SIU faculty, staff and students: apply now to reqest space to display your work at the Expo.

Are you a K-12 school or other southern Illinois energy club or school group with an energy project to share?  Click the link above, fill out the form, and we'll get back with you.

Energy Companies

Are you a company located in the southern Illinois region?  You can also participate in the Expo and gain some networking exposure for a small fee to help support student posters.  Please fill out this form to reqeust space at the Expo.

Expo Participant Instructions

  • Please be sure to fill out the forms at the links above so that we will be sure to have space for you and be able to include some information about you in the program.
  • Please get to the Expo as close to 9:00 a.m. or a few minutes early if possible, and be available to take down your exhibit by 2:00 p.m. 
  • Please try to be available during networking times of the day. You do not have to stay at your exhibit but being available at the Expo will make it more likely that you can meet up with potential collaborators.  If you cannot be present, please leave a handout for people to take with your contact information. 
  • We will have tables and easels available as per your instructions in the form.  
  • This is our first Expo and we are learning as we go along. If we are not able to accommodate your needs we will make every effort to assist you in finding solutions. Please try to be flexible.
